Mit großer Trauer müssen wir Ihnen mitteilen, dass Herr em. o. Univ.-Prof. Dr. Hans-Peter Bantleon im Alter von 70 Jahren von uns gegangen ist. Er war emeritierter Professor und ehemaliger Leiter der kieferorthopädischen Abteilung der Universitätszahnklinik Wien, Medizinischen Universität Wien (über 24 Jahre).
Prof. Bantleon schloss 1979 sein Studium zum Dr. med. univ. an der Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz ab. Von 1979 bis 1991 wurde er von Prof. Droschl (Graz), Prof. Burstone (Connecticut) und Prof. Melson (Aarhus) im Fach Kieferorthopädie ausgebildet. 1992 wurde er zum ordentlichen Professor für Kieferorthopädie ernannt. Von 1996 bis 2014 war er Präsident der Österreichischen Gesellschaft für Kieferorthopädie und seit 2014 Vizepräsident. Von 1997 bis 2004 war er stellvertretender Leiter der Universitätszahnklinik der Medizinischen Universität Wien. Von 2005 bis 2006 war er Präsident der Europäischen Gesellschaft für Kieferorthopädie. Im Jahre 2016 überreichte ihm der Vizekanzler der Republik Österreich das Österreichische Ehrenkreuz für Wissenschaft und Kunst 1. Klasse. Auch das international bekannte, jährlich stattgefundene „International Vienna Orthodontic Symposium“ wird für immer mit seinem Geist verbunden sein.
Prof. Bantleon war Mitglied der World Federation of Orthodontists, der American Orthodontic Society, der European Orthodontic Society, der Angle Society of Europe, der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Kieferorthopädie, der Österreichischen Gesellschaft für Kieferorthopädie und der Österreichischen Gesellschaft für Zahn-, Mund- und Kieferheilkunde.
Er war Experte für kieferorthopädische Biomechanik und immer bereit, sein Wissen mit uns allen zu teilen.
Lieber Hans-Peter, wir werden uns an dich als einen großartigen Kieferorthopäden, einen leidenschaftlichen Lehrer und einen guten Freund erinnern.

With great sadness we inform you that em. o. Professor Hans-Peter Bantleon passed away at the age of 70. He was emeritus Professor and former Chairman of the Orthodontic Department at the University Clinic of Dentistry, Medical University of Vienna over 24 years.
Prof. Bantleon graduated as MD from the Karl-Franzens-University Graz in 1979. From 1979 to 1991 he was trained as an orthodontist by Prof. Droschl (Graz), Prof. Burstone (Connecticut) and Prof. Melson (Aarhus). He was appointed as full professor for orthodontics in 1992. From 1996 to 2014 he was President of the Austrian Society for Orthodontics and Vice President since 2014. From 1997 to 2004 he was Deputy Head of the University Clinic of Dentistry, Medical University of Vienna. He was President of the European Orthodontic Society in 2005-2006. In 2016 the Vice Chancellor of Austria presented him with the Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art, 1st Class. Also the famous annual 'International Vienna Orthodontic Symposium' will forever be connected with his spirit.
Prof. Bantleon was a member of the World Federation of Orthodontists, American Orthodontic Society, European Orthodontic Society, The Angle Society of Europe, German Society for Orthodontics, Austrian Society for Orthodontics and Austrian Society for Dentistry, Oral Medicine and Orthodontics.
He was an expert for orthodontic biomechanics and always willing to share his knowledge with all of us.
We will remember him as a great orthodontist, a passionate teacher and a good friend.
